Technical Analysis

Spectral analysis shows what you’re hearing.

All ZUZU pickups — whether ZUZUbuckers or ZUZU-S for S-guitars — have a distinctive chime and dimensionality that gives your playing sheen, spark, and spank.

Tests comparing ZUZUbuckers with the Gibson 490 humbucker reveal the difference. The charts below plot amplitude (what we hear as ‘volume’) against frequency (‘pitch’). ZUZUbuckers, rendered by the orange lines, privilege overtones in the high end of both the Neck and Bridge pickups. Meanwhile, bass tones are slightly reduced in the Neck ZUZUbucker (in order to mitigate boominess) and slightly boosted in the Bridge, thereby improving balance across all six strings regardless of which pickup you select. (And the middle position of a 3-way switch delivers a delightful bit of glassy, silky spank akin to what you get from your “S” guitar!)

Put it all together and the result is clarity, complexity, and dimension that are missing in a traditional humbucker.  It’s why ZUZUbuckers just might be the first humbucker you’ll want to play clean. Really.
